Gateway, Colo.

A fiery semi-rollover accident just outside of Gateway sends one to the hospital and shuts Highway 141 down for several hours. Around 11 o’clock Wednesday morning, a southbound semi carrying flammable cargo lost control and rolled-over, blocking both lanes of the highway near mile-marker 116.

The truck was carrying 45,000 pounds of Gilsonite material used in oil drilling, which spilled and ignited a brief but intense blaze along the highway. A volunteer firefighter who happened to be driving behind the truck at the time of the accident managed to safely extinguish the fire. The driver of the truck was complaining of chest pain and was taken to St. Mary’s Hospital by ambulance.
