Colorado Defeats Yale 70-59
BOULDER, Colo. (AP)—Cory Higgins scored 14 of his 23 points in the second half and Colorado overcame a sluggish start to beat Yale 70-59 Tuesday night.
Alec Burks added 19 points and Marcus Relphorde 15 for the Buffaloes (8-4), who improved to 7-0 at home in their best start at the Coors Events Center since winning their first seven in 2005-06. Burks also had six steals, part of 30 turnovers in the game by Yale (4-8).
Yale’s Alex Zampier, who entered averaging 18.9 points per game as the Ivy League’s leading scorer, didn’t get his first basket until hitting a layup with 5:16 remained. He finished with a season-low seven points on 3-of-12 shooting.
Michael Sands and Porter Braswell scored 13 points apiece to lead Yale, which dominated the boards 41-27 but could not translate that into success against the more athletic Buffaloes, who led by one point at halftime.
UTEP Tops Air Force 58-47 In Sun Bowl tournament
EL PASO, Texas (AP) _ Randy Culpepper and Christian Polk had 14 points each to lead UTEP in a 58-47 victory over Air Force in the championship game of the Sun Bowl Invitational Tuesday night.
Derrick Caracter grabbed a game-high 11 rebounds to go with nine points for the Miners (9-2).
Michael Lyons scored 10 points to lead Air Force (7-5).
UTEP led 25-18 at halftime and built a 36-25 advantage with 14:42 to play. The Falcons clawed as close as 38-36 with just under 10 minutes to play but never got any closer.
With UTEP leading 50-44 with 4 minutes left, a layup by Polk sparked an 8-0 run as UTEP sealed the victory.
The Miners scored 18 points off of 16 Air Force turnovers. The Falcons converted 16 UTEP miscues for just four points.
