BLM Firefighter Killed in Routine Tree Removal

Grand Junction, Colo.

A Bureau of Land Management firefighter is killed during a routine hazard-tree removal project.
29-year-old Brett Stearns was killed yesterday while trying to remove a tree at Freeman Reservoir, about 15 miles northeast of Craig.
Stearns was working on the project with about 12 other B-L-M firefighters when he was struck by a falling tree at approximately 4:30 in the afternoon.
He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The accident is currently under investigation.
