Ol’ Saint Nick traded in his sleigh for a 2000 Kawasaki V-Twin, delivering early Christmas gifts for less fortunate children to the Grand Junction Moose Lodge.
“I need something big because I got a lot to haul around,” Santa Claus said, sitting atop his motorcycle.
It was all to make sure every boy and girl in the community has a merry Christmas.
“We’re trying to brighten Christmas up for children that might otherwise not have anything,” Claus said.
Kevin “Bear” Riddle of the Christian Motorcyclists Association started the “Christmas in July Through Christmas Everything Drive” in July of 2009.
“The results have been beyond our expectations,” Riddle said.
In just five months, the drive collected 15 truckloads of donations, including the toys handed out to children at the Moose Lodge Saturday afternoon.
“It’s been a blessing to see,” Claus said. “We’ve bikers from all over the place, from different clubs, that have come together.”
Riddle plans on continuing the drive in 2010, and making it an even larger event.
“Maybe sometimes we have a rough reputation,” Biker Santa said. “But right now,. it’s all about the kids.”
