Autopsy Underway in Canyon Creek Homicide

An autopsy is underway in Grand Junction on a body found in an apple orchard in the Canyon Creek area outside of New Castle. The body was discovered by a teenage worker at the orchard around 11 o’clock Friday morning. The Garfield County Sheriff’s Office says the worker was clearing brush when he found the body.

The Colorado Bureau of Investigation is helping with the case. The Mesa County Coroner and Sheriff’s Office Search and Rescue team are also assisting Garfield County officials. The Garfield County Sheriff’s Office is remaining tight-lipped on any details surrounding the homicide, confirming only that an unidentified body was found in the apple orchard and foul play is suspected.

The boy’s mother tells News Channel 5 that the body appeared to be that of a young girl between the age of 10 or 12 years old. She also said the body was found inside a bag and was partially decomposed. According to officials with the CBI, the body is that of a young female.
