It is officially National Adoption Awareness month in Mesa County. On Monday morning, the Mesa County Board of Commissioners announced the proclamation with the Mesa County Human Services Department.
Several local families who have adopted were also on hand to share their stories. Every year, about 20 children become available for adoption in the county.
Some who have adopted from the Mesa County Human Services Department stress the importance for the community to be aware of their adoption choices.
“Every child needs a safe place to call home. And the more people that are aware of adoption, then the more likely it is these kids will be adopted and have a place to call home,” Pat Salazar said. In July, she adopted three girls.
The children available for adoption range in age from infant to teenager. If you are interested in becoming a foster-adoptive parent, visit the following website for more information: http://www.humanservices.mesacounty.us
