Mesa County, Colo.

The Mesa County Health Department is reporting 82 hospitalized cases of swine flu, and most of those cases are young children. Mesa County is dealing with four times the average number of flu patients this time of year. The age group with the highest hospitalization rate is children less than 6 months old.

The youngest patient in the county is only four days old. The health department is urging parents to get their children booster shots that will be available next week. Those shots will be available to children younger than 3 years old and children under the age of 9 who have chronic medical conditions.

If your child needs a booster shot, the Health Department will begin scheduling appointments next week on Monday morning at 8:30. The appointments are only available on Tuesday.

You can sign up for an appointment one of two ways. You can do it online at http://www.health.mesacounty.us, or by calling 683-6636.
